Household Goods Moving FAQ's
There are many questions people have when getting ready to move. It is a very stressful time and forgetting to ask certain questions is inevitable.
We have compiled a list of the most common questions we get asked, along with the answers. If you have a question not listed, feel free to email or call us.
Do I need an estimate?
Yes. The law requires a written estimate. Some of the information we will need: items to be moved, size of house/s, addresses of both locations, and dimensions of certain items.
We can also send a representative out to give a more precise estimate at no charge.
Are you a "full service" moving company?
No. A full service moving company both packs and moves the customer. We only do the moving (the muscle part). The packing is up to the customer.
Are there any items you won't/can't move?
By law, moving companies are restricted from moving items such as flammables and firearms. Please see our items not allowed sheet to get a complete list.
Also, be sure to empty the gas out of gas-operated items such as lawn mowers, snow blowers and weed-eaters prior to moving.
Do I need to empty the drawers?
For pieces such as dressers, chests, and desks the items can remain in the drawers (unless unusually heavy or fragile).
However, items such as filing cabinets need to be emptied for reasons of safety.
What about appliances?
We ask the customer to unhook and disconnect any appliances prior to our arrival. Our movers are not licensed to disconnect gas nor are they licensed plumbers. We do not accept any liability for these connections.
Refrigerators and freezers should be emptied out, as well as dishwashers, stoves or ovens, etc.
What if it is raining or snowing?
We move in most weather conditions, including rain and snow. We come equipped with all necessary provisions needed for these circumstances.
Will you dispose of any trash or debris?
For an additional fee we will haul away any trash or debris.
When do I pay?
We require a deposit on most moves, the remainder is due when the move is completed.
You can pay by check or credit card.
Should I tip the movers?
Although tips are not expected, they are greatly appreciated. A good tipping guidline is $5 - $10 for every hour.
Items we will not transport:
- any type of explosive
- live animals
- plants and produce
- hazardous materials
- pool tables
- hot tubs
- safe over 1,000 lbs
What if I need to store my items?
We also provide climate and temperature controlled storage.
The costs vary depending on amount of items to be stored and length of time.
